It was 2:47 on a Wednesday when the maintenance lead appeared in my doorway. "We've got a problem." The shutdown was scheduled for Monday. Find the company's industrial catalog, get a local distributor, and build a relationship. The distributor saved us more times than I can count—including the time they talked us out of the exact mistake I made in March 2023.
That was the real inversion for me: I used to think my job was to get the best price. Now I know it's to get the right part, from a supplier who can prove it, and keep the plant running.
