  • Calculate TCO before comparing quotes. Include labor, expected life, and one potential failure event.
  • Verify specs with a vendor who has a standard invoicing process. I lost $250 on a handwritten receipt once; never again.
  • For hydraulic or high-temperature use: specify Gates or equivalent. PVC will surprise you (not in a good way).
  • For non-critical, low-pressure water: PVC is fine. Just budget for replacement in 2 years.

As of January 2025, the USPS standard envelope dimensions (I know, random) are 3.5” × 5” to 6.125” × 11.5” – but that’s a different kind of delivery. For hose deliveries, I just make sure I get a proper invoice and a spec sheet. The cheap quote? It’s never actually cheap.
